Well, it may have been a perfext storm.

1. Increase the amount of people with college degrees, but don't add the corresponding amount of jobs.

2. Also offer shit loads of useless degrees.

3. AI, which may be the smallest part of the equation.

Florida removes sociology as a core subject in public universities as part of a push against DEI in education

Trade schools werent what the ancient greeks had in mind when they started up Academia and free, advanced lectures and seminars. They had trade schools for that.
Now, of course, the idiots think its perfectly acceptable that theyve been converted to job mills that you need to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to just to gain entrance to the job market lol

Lol wtb imagines himself as a student under plato and aristotle but in reality the ancient greeks would be so embarrassed by your lack of muscle mass and legitimate reasoning skills that they surely would have enslaved you and traded you off to some persian warlord to be part of his gay harem.

Any job in programming is obsolete.

AI isn't a small part of the equation. It closes the equation.

Now everyone who thought they got a useful high paying degree finds out they did not, it's as useless as wtb's.

An anecdote is the "Create video games" degrees.

They knowingly had WAY more ppl go to college to make video games than the job market has demand for.

They didn't care because the government guarantees the loans....so if the guy becomes a server at coffee barn, who cares, they still get paid.

We all know the idea as it was pitched.

College grads earn more than HS grads.

So why not make everyone a college grad.

The problems with that theory

1. Your comparison is a HS grad during a time when college grads were far more limited and a diploma from college was used as a means to artificially limit competition.

2.simple supply and demand, like having women work outside the home, what happened? You about doubled the workforce, thus workers become less valuable.

They should start teaching sales in HS for everyone.

A plumber can earn decent income.

A plumber who owns a small business can earn alot more.

"Any job in programming is obsolete."

Lol

No.

While I'm sure you can get rid of the plebian roles like website inventory or something else ultra gay, any high end task, especially in a new or research role, is going to need to be better than taking the average word association from reddit and stack overflow.
