I was unfamiliar with ammonium percholate, so I googled it figuring it to be some sort of explosive...not far off.

Its used primarily in rockets.

Ammonium perchlorate (\(\text{NH}_4\text{ClO}_4\)) is a powerful inorganic oxidizer, primarily used as the main oxidizer in solid rocket propellant (APCP) for aerospace and defense applications. It is a white, water-soluble crystal that acts as a core ingredient in composite fuels, often combined with aluminum powder and a binder. It is highly sensitive, with severe explosive hazards if contaminated or heated.
