rank | Wed Apr 22 15:27:37 With Virginia vote, Democrats gain edge over Trump's national GOP redistricting push As time runs out before the midterm elections, Virginia took a step on Tuesday to counter and possibly surpass President Trump's national effort to redraw congressional voting maps in favor of the GOP. rank | Wed Apr 22 15:29:05 “This referendum is a blatant partisan power grab that nobody’s really ever seen anything like it,” Trump said one day before the Virginia referendum. --- He's never seen anything like it! *eyeroll* |

rank | Wed Apr 22 15:42:48 It is blatant gerrymandering. Meh, both sides do it, both sides give excuses. I don't really think the left needs it this round. |

rank | Wed Apr 22 15:43:48 More accurately...51% of the voters decided to give themselves 91% of the congressional delegation. That ballot question was also deceptive as hell...there's probably going to be a lawsuit over that. All of this spearheaded by a Democratic governor who ran as a "moderate" in the election who was explicitly opposed to gerrymandering, only to become a hardcore leftwing nutjob who loves gerrymandering now that she's in office. Trump only has himself to blame for getting the ball rolling on this gerrymandering craze...but what the VA Democrats did is pure bullshit. |

rank | Wed Apr 22 16:43:02 "More accurately...51% of the voters decided to give themselves 91% of the congressional delegation." That's not really how it works. That's not how math maths. The Democrats increased their chances in some districts while making themselves more vulnerable in others. This could backfire spectacularly. - |

rank | Wed Apr 22 17:25:18 "That's not really how it works. That's not how math maths." Um...that's exactly how the Democrats think it works. That map that's been floating around shows 10 out of 11 districts as leaning (D), up from 6 out of 11 before. Obviously an election can go a way they don't expect it to...but based on their expectations, they clearly are looking to pick up 4 seats. |

rank | Wed Apr 22 18:34:35 Trump literally is the reason it all started when he asked Texas to do it (plus specifically primaried the Indiana people who didn't go along w/ it) (& California & Virginia at least offered people a chance to vote on it) as always, Trump is the worst offender (& cause of bad things) |

rank | Wed Apr 22 19:50:40 the disease: " A RIGGED ELECTION TOOK PLACE LAST NIGHT IN THE GREAT COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA! All day long Republicans were winning, the Spirit was unbelievable, until the very end when, of course, there was a massive “Mail In Ballot Drop!” Where have I heard that before — And the Democrats eked out another Crooked Victory! Six to five goes to ten to one, and yet the Presidential Election in November was very close to a 50-50 split. In addition to everything else, the language on the Referendum was purposefully unintelligible and deceptive. As everyone knows, I am an extraordinarily brilliant person, and even I had no idea what the hell they were talking about in the Referendum, and neither do they! Let’s see if the Courts will fix this travesty of “Justice.” President DONALD J. TRUMP " (searching for the language that 'extraordinarily brilliant' Trump couldn't remotely understand, i found this as the 'proposed' language: "Should the Constitution of Virginia be amended to allow the General Assembly to temporarily adopt new congressional districts to restore fairness in the upcoming elections, while ensuring Virginia's standard redistricting process resumes for all future redistricting after the 2030 census?" not sure if that was final language or not) |

rank | Wed Apr 22 20:05:23 order of events: - Texas (for Trump w/ him publicly demanding it) - Aug 2025 - Missouri (for Trump) - Sep 2025 - North Carolina (for Trump) - Oct 2025 - California (for sanity) - Nov 2025 - Virginia (for sanity) - Apr 2026 Florida coming up (for Trump) the asshole is clear |

rank | Wed Apr 22 21:12:13 Hang everyone who voted for it, as well as any elected official associated with the referendum |

Rugian
rank | Wed Apr 22 21:34:58 Also..Indiana is not gerrymandering their state, but on May 5 the GOP gets to purge all of the Republican legislators who made that decision. A purely punitive measure that doesn't change anything, it just sends the message of what happens when you don't play ball with Trump. |

rank | Thu Apr 23 09:32:05 That was fast: "Virginia court puts pause on voter-passed congressional maps boosting Democrats Judge Jack Hurley Jr of the Tazewell county circuit court blocked the state from taking any action to implement the new districts, following a lawsuit filed by the Republican National Committee. The committee had argued to the court that the timing and phrasing of the measure were illegal. Jay Jones, the Virginia attorney general, said his office planned to appeal the ruling." https://ww...urt-congressional-maps-redrawn |

rank | Thu Apr 23 09:49:55 A reminder about Jay Jones as well: "During his campaign for attorney general, Jones received widespread condemnation after text messages from 2022 surfaced in which he "mused about violence" against the then-state house speaker Todd Gilbert and his children.[12] Jones "fantasized" about Gilbert being shot and "wished" Gilbert's children would die, among other things." |

rank | Thu Apr 23 09:58:21 We really need a national reset on politics. No more fucking psychos. |
|
Seb
rank | Thu Apr 23 16:41:32 This is how you get a reset. Ruthless rat fucking and escalation until everyone agrees to restraint. Glad the democrats have figured out they can somehow pretend normal rules will return and they will isn't going to work. But the US demos is pretty far gone I think. You yourself a case in point. You fundamentally don't believe that people can honestly disagree with you on any policy position without being suffer bad faith actors or a level of incompetence that invalidates them for office and power. It's only a slight step from there to the proposition that compromising with them is utterly unacceptable and fundamentally not in the interests of the country and keeping them out of power *at any cost* including outright subverting the constitutional order is necessary for the survival of the country. And then you have arrived at the modern republican party. |
|
Seb
rank | Thu Apr 23 16:42:59 And then of course the obverse is true. Anyway, America is irretrievably fucked and ungovernable - any any reset will likely take decades and knowing the US propensity to resort to violence, involve some kind of civil conflict. |

rank | Thu Apr 23 22:32:10 "the Democrats are always right everything is the Republicans fault" -what a retard like seb says |

jergul
rank | Thu Apr 23 22:51:33 You blamed electing Trump on the democrats sammy. |

jergul
rank | Thu Apr 23 22:53:04 You fundamental problem is a two-party system. Seb is fundamentally correct. You know no other path that escalation until something breaks. |
|
Sam Adams
rank | Thu Apr 23 22:58:35 "You blamed electing Trump on the democrats sammy. jergul" Well ya Democrats are obviously partly to blame. Trump couldn't have been elected without you leftists being batshit. Duh. |
|
Sam Adams
rank | Thu Apr 23 22:59:02 Obviously the gop gets some blame as well. Could have elected someone sane. |

jergul
rank | Thu Apr 23 23:31:42 By "batshit", you mean "woman of colour". Yah, we know that your all-encompassing bigotry made her unelectable, so you went with Trump instead. Harris as VP was a tactical choice. Biden did not want a challenge from the VP for the 2nd term. The people to blame for Trump is every single individual that voted for him. |

rank | Fri Apr 24 00:01:10 "By "batshit", you mean "woman of colour". Yah, we know that your all-encompassing bigotry made her unelectable, so you went with Trump instead." Statements like this are absolutely astounding to me. There have literally been hundreds of threads and thousands of posts of the insane idioctic policies the mainstream Democratic Party (including Harris) have adopted in the last decade...yet you and Seb and most other Europeans genuinely think that none of that idiocy exists. How? Do you guys intentionally ignore those threads? I am genuinely asking for real. |
