This due to problems with the strictly biological term which, as it turns out, is seldom strictly biological. E.g., racists might pretend to themselves that its a person's culture they have a problem with, not their biology, but they usually think that their culture is inextricably the result of their genes. So when they pretend to point to other markers for their racism, cultural or ethnocentric markers, those cultural markers tend to still be rooted in classic eugenic racism in the final analysis. Plus of course issues like people using muslim/arab interchangeably or pretending to hate muslims but not arabs, but revealingly not giving a damn about whether christian arabs get killed, etc. Academia began using cultural racism as a more all-encompassing term for related phenomena that basically shares the same psychological process some years ago.
