The 412th Test Wing Public Affairs Office has now issued a brief press release, which is as follows:

“An Air Force B-52 Stratofortress carrying eight people on a routine test mission crashed today shortly after take-off at 11:20 a.m. (PDT). Initial indications are that the crash was not survivable. Emergency response personnel are on scene, and officials are working to account for all personnel.”

“The crash is currently under investigation.”

Apparently the B-52 was airborne for over 3 minutes before crashing and didn't crash on takeoff as I had thought.

Fortunately I do not believe any close contacts were aboard.

And while tracking data is limited it looks like airborne for about 45 seconds. Takeoff, followed by a sharp roll to the left and sudden plunge. A number of possible causes.

If you haven't...well first of all, don't, it's horrific imagery. The bodies stop being bodies, they become something more, uh, liquid.

This wasn't a normal crew (2 of the 8 were Boeing employees), so I wouldn't be surprised if some/most people onboard weren't trained or positioned to eject.

My first memory of Utopia was this horrific monster who called himself Satan and was quickly banned for being unspeakably sick.

There was an Afghani kid here back then who was probably the most polite and respectful poster Ive ever seen on UP - cant remember his name.
