My password is very strong. It has 11 characters and most people count with their fingers.

I got notice long ago that the password I use on this site was compromised. The notice didn't say what site but I only used that password here and nowhere else.

From where do you get alerts and notices from?
williamthebastard

I didnt check, but I would imagine from my web browser (chrome in that instance).

Probably the CIA sweeping the board regularly trying to get to Habebe who has cunningly discovered their implant to stop him telling people about it

If you don't know where the message came from, how do you know it's legit and not some weird popup?

I dont do weird popups. I simply didnt bother checking further because I shrugged my shoulders. Actually, there was some info about it being an alert from Google, I just didnt read further.

While we're here ... TC the link to the IRC server has been dead for ~ 2 years. It's probably safe to do away with it whenever.

You never know where that link may lead to tomorrow.

"I dont do weird popups."

We all know you do weird popups. Pay attention next time. Google would never bother you just to try to sell you something.

Youre talking shit.
I often get warnings about that because I often get assigned one-time passwords on company sites in my work. They get hacked and I get a warning. I have about 30 hacked passwords in that context, just checked my oassword manager

19 actually.

"Checked passwords for 199 sites and apps

29 compromised passwords
You should change these now
32 reused passwords
Create unique passwords
49 weak passwords
Create strong passwords"

I've contacted the relevant company a couple of times, but they dont seem to worry since theyre single-use passwords, so I dont worry either

Pfft! That's not a hack! This is a hack!

When I was getting my email hacked into. I kept changing passwords, but they kept right on breaching my account.

Access kept pointing back to the UK MoD ... but they pinky swore it wasn't them.

I always assumed that it was someone from this board, because this is the only place I hang out with degenerates. :o)

Here is what an AI says about it:

Understanding Your Password Alert

The exact password you just typed was found in a database of known leaked passwords from past data breaches across the internet.

It does not mean the specific website you are currently logging into has just been breached.

Here is a breakdown of how this works and what it means for you:

How Google Checks: Google keeps a securely encrypted list of billions of passwords that have been exposed in various third-party website hacks over the years. When you type a password, Google Password Manager checks it against this list.

Why It Was Flagged: The alert triggered because the password string you entered is on that list. This could be because you used this password on a different website that was compromised in the past, or simply because someone else in the world used the exact same password on a site that got hacked.

The Risk: Because this password is now public knowledge among hackers, they use automated scripts to try plugging it into thousands of websites to see if it works. If you are using this password, your account is highly vulnerable to being hijacked, even if the website you are currently on is perfectly secure.

I havent used that password for anything else in at least 15 years, so Im not worried. I only use the long, secure passwords that my mac suggests. But I would imagine it could only be hacked by someone sweeping this board since it only exists here. Its also a rather unusual word, so its unlikely to be commonly found on the web.

Its not even a word, its a rhyme that I made up on another word

"its a rhyme that I made up on another word"

So it's not a random combination of alphanumeric symbols. That makes it likely that others have used the password as well.

Im sure someone has used it, but it is random since its a made up word. Although, certainly its an ancient password and not up to todays standards.
