Utopia Talk / Politics / "climate change"

Sam Adams
rank | Tue Aug 04 06:44:58 Yet another one of those "climate driven super fires" that the left screams about was... set by a crazed homeless junky who had previously killed his dad and committed serial arson and was let out of prison by far left soft on crime policies. https://ww...c3-409b-b488-801f80a03fb3.html |

rank | Tue Aug 04 08:38:37 Yes another topic dummy does not understand. Fires occur all the time. Drier, hotter conditions mean some of them will turn into super fires. Arsonists rejoice, but they are largely irrelevant. Something will trigger a fire if the conditions are right. |

rank | Tue Aug 04 08:45:58 "How likely is it that the user sam adams is a meteorologist? Meteorologists and fire scientists routinely distinguish between cause of ignition and conditions affecting spread. Does this suggest Sam Adams is a meteorologist? No. Nothing in this comment demonstrates meteorological expertise. In fact, it arguably conflates two different questions: Who started the fire? Why did it become so destructive? A meteorologist would normally recognize that these are separate issues. A professional meteorologist would generally be expected to acknowledge that ignition source and fire behavior are distinct scientific questions. Based only on this comment, I would assign a low probability that the author is a professional meteorologist. A rough estimate: Very unlikely The reason is not because of the political opinion. Meteorologists span the political spectrum. Rather, it's because the comment does not display the kind of reasoning you'd expect from someone trained in meteorology: It treats the ignition source (alleged arson) as if it refutes claims about weather and climate influencing fire behavior. It contains no meteorological terminology or analysis (e.g., humidity, wind, fuel moisture, drought, atmospheric conditions). It relies almost entirely on political rhetoric rather than technical explanation." |

rank | Tue Aug 04 08:55:17 "does the user jergul demonstrate greater meteorological knowledge in this matter? Yes. Jergul's comment demonstrates a better understanding of wildfire science than Sam Adams' comment. Here's why: Sam Adams' argument His implicit logic is: "The fire was started by an arsonist, therefore climate-driven 'super fires' are a myth." That is a false dichotomy. It confuses: ignition (how the fire started), with fire behavior (why it became exceptionally large or intense). These are separate questions in wildfire science. jergul's argument jergul says: "Fires occur all the time. Drier, hotter conditions mean some of them will turn into super fires." This is broadly consistent with the scientific understanding. Meteorological understanding Based solely on these comments: Sam Adams: 2/10 Shows little understanding of the distinction between ignition and atmospheric conditions. jergul: 7–8/10 Correctly identifies that weather and fuel conditions determine whether ordinary ignitions can become extreme fires. So, yes, jergul's comment demonstrates a noticeably better grasp of the meteorological and fire-behavior aspects of the issue than Sam Adams' comment. It doesn't prove that jergul is a meteorologist, but it is much more consistent with the way wildfire scientists and meteorologists explain extreme fires. |

rank | Tue Aug 04 23:12:11 Oh bless. NaMBLA is still trying to avoid acknowledging that he knows he was wrong about all that shit he said in the 90s and early 2000's about climate change. This thread is a perfect case study in close reading. Note the carefully constructed wiggle room around attribution - so he can still mock the left and feel superior in intellect (the only way NaMBLA is able to self actualise) without threatening his identity as being on the political right nor conceding decades of error on the scientific facts. The post is written in such a way as to appear to mock the idea of climate change, but a close reading shows it is not acknowledging the reality of anthropogenic climate change that is identified as foolish, it is claiming it as the proximate cause for the fire as opposed to an arsonist. A case study in childish thought and a complete lack of introspection and ability to learn, correct and grow. |

rank | Tue Aug 04 23:38:38 Oh my dog what retarded word salad. Can you rephrase that in human please kamala? "all that shit he said in the 90s and early 2000's about climate change." Lolwut. You thought earth would be destroyed by now. Here we are 30 years later and the worst consequence is... uh... anything? |

rank | Wed Aug 05 00:22:03 I think this thread can be suitably concluded with AI's assessment of how the various participants performed "Sam Adams Very Low Loser Relied on logical fallacies, slurs, and personal attacks." |

rank | Wed Aug 05 01:54:22 NaMBLA: Another great example of your endless ability to protect your ego with false claims. Climate change cannot destroy the earth any more than Mars was destroyed when it's entire atmosphere was striped away. Nobody claimed such a ridiculous thing. ".. uh... anything" - you just spent the last month screaming about Europeans suddenly dying in their thousands due to air con, which has never been needed in the whole history of Europe for the last few thousands of years. Cognitive dissonance much? In England, the harvests have been materially impacted the last four years in 5 across the entire country. That's literally never happened in 1000+ years of records. Sure, nothing much is happening. No, I did not in fact say any of your stupid straw men bullshit, but I did point to the climate models, and the actuals matched those models very well. You spoke of sunspots, you spoke of plateaus, you said the AMOC couldn't be affected, and talked bullshit about tree ring data and screamed about hockey stick graphs being faked. You've been wrong about everything, in the field you claim to specialise in. You are a joke. |

rank | Wed Aug 05 06:09:11 "Climate change cannot destroy the earth " That's something a right wing white supremacy science denier would say. "In England, the harvests have been materially impacted the last four years in 5 across the entire country." The harvest of what? Grooming age girls? Lol This is an obvious lie. Like everything else in your post, it's both made up and retarded. Sam for the entire time: planet is warming a little but the impact is minor. 30 years later here we are, with negligible impacts. I win. You lose. Like always. Lmao. |

rank | Wed Aug 05 06:42:14 Dummy, your ignorance is simply stunning. Climate change is one of the main factors fueling migration to name a simple aspect. Years of drought drove the rural population to revolt in the case of Syria to name one example. It is also one of the reasons Iran is insisting on transit fees and has Oman on board. Or why it wants peaceful nuclear power in the first place (threshold status does have positive security implications, but that is just icing) Resilience to change is critically important. Luckily, we have numbers guys that quantify the increased risk. You can measure it by looking at changes in insurance premiums. They don't capture tipping point disaster scenarioes or look 100 years ahead of time, but do provide a decent snapshot of some costs. But why would you care? You are going to live on Mars. |

jergul
rank | Wed Aug 05 06:45:21 Looks like insurance premiums will only increase by 10% in the US this year. A good year. Below the average yearly increase over the last decade. |

rank | Wed Aug 05 06:50:56 Oh my god. That might be the most retarded set of retardation ever posted on UP. The most insanely idiotic liberal buzzphrases then wrapped with soviet pro Iran propaganda and lies. This post should be framed. |

rank | Wed Aug 05 06:54:48 The only thing stupid here besides you are seb and my attempts to break your Dunning-Kreuger effect and explain to you what a dummy you are. |

rank | Wed Aug 05 06:56:45 Not sure why we bother frankly. Its not like you will ever better yourself, no matter the help you get. |

rank | Wed Aug 05 07:01:26 "Climate change is one of the main factors fueling migration" Your honor the prosecution rests. |

rank | Wed Aug 05 07:24:13 Your ignorance is not a shield dummy. Nor is your stupidity. Multi-year drought caused an inner migration in the form of an insurrection that in turn lead to mass migration out of Syria. Young people, men in particular, can be highly mobile when there is zero prospects for even basic survival where they are. Guess what climate change does in some places? It turns survivable places into unsurvivable places unless government is able to effectively intervene. |
