Which, let's face it, Trump absolutely did. In response, Trump swore revenge. He had Louisiana Republicans literally rewrite their state election laws in order to make it easier to defeat Cassidy and then threw his support behind a primary challenger. All along the way, he has repeatedly insulted Cassidy, calling him disloyal and a disaster to anyone who would listen. Cassidy ended up getting crushed in his primary and his political career is almost certainly dead from here on out. So what does Cassidy do? The GOP Senate is giving off real Augustus-era Roman Senate vibes lately. Sure, the Senate exists...but everyone is afraid to anger the First Citizen, so they blindly support whatever he wants.
