There's not a single point in the entirety of your tiny nation that is more than 80 miles from saltwater. These are trivial distances. These are such small distances that you might intentionally build the thing further away, just in case you morons melt it down. Meanwhile the US has a 10gw line running from the mighty Columbia dams down to where all the people live in California... 800 miles. The Chinese have even more power but a bit less distance from three gorges to their coastal cities. Brazil runs at least 10gw from mighty itaipu to rio, something like 600 miles. Brazil completed that in 1984. If fucktastic brazil could attach the world's second mightiest dam, dwarfing any nuclear station, to a 600 mile away city using Brazilian 1984 tech, you should have been able to handle much smaller plants over much smaller distances long long ago. Why are you guys so far behind in the absolute basics? Who possibly looks at a euro precip map... Only 25 inches a year on average for the regions in question, and then builds their nuke plants on a river when the ocean is littlerally a tiny hop away? Seriously euros. Actual usuable light hitting the panels is higher for other reasons and will absolutely be credited the Aurora. Why? Because its cool. Solar panels have made sense of a while. I dont get less sunlight than you do. It just stacks seasonally and I do have a better albedo effect (snow is on the ground until a month before solstice). They are just not worth the bother (low electricity prices, wood burning, and general energy efficiency measures are better first). The trigger is the cool factor that I mentioned. It does not matter that it is a very low value. I will be replacing barn and house roof in a couple years. So yah, I am doing that then. |

They complement well in the UK. For domestic solar, because you tend to be over capacity in the first place, it's more like 20% of electricity usage - so as I said, still useful amounts of power for those two months of the year. |
