For the US Senate election in Alaska, Mary Peltola (D) is running against Dan Sullivan (R).

There is a third candidate running though. Dan Sullivan, iindependent. Someone who has had zero prior political experience. But he shares Dan Sullivan's name, which means that Republican voters may accidentally vote for him instead. He even attempted to appear on the ballot with the real Dan Sullivan's middle initial, even though he himself doesn't have that initial.

Turns out, the Peltola campaign recruited the fake Dan Sullivan to run and spoil the ballot. This per the New York Times.

Totally ridiculous to believe that these upstanding individuals would ever try to steal an election though...amirite?

This is common practice in the US though.

Indeed wasn't there a case a few elections back where it almost certainly cost a democrat incumbent their seat?

Rugian, you may hate trump but your relentless partisanship approach to rules and conventions (only a problem when the democrats do it) is exactly why you have Trump.
