Cherub Cow Member	Fri Jan 13 16:09:41 ..after trying to get APC tickets this morning and failing due to the ticket brokers winning (again), I'm sad that big bands like APC, Tool, and NIИ have become so unattainable now :/ .. I say "now", but yeah, I wrote this in 2011: http://www...hub-or-other-mass-ticket-touts ... so it's been going on for a while. I was able to see Tool at Voodoo 2016, but they didn't take the show very seriously, maybe because it was a festival instead of their own personal event (though they played a great show there in 2001, so it could have been something else this year). A new thing I learned is that ticket brokers actually get pre-sale access (via more market manipulations, e.g., having the brokers join fan clubs to exploit fan club sales, "paying" (read: "bribing") the venue for special/early access, etc.), and any tickets remaining during the public sale get bought up by outsourced labor (ticket brokers hire computer centers overseas to defeat the captchas and by volume shut out actual concert-goers), so even going through the captcha process at the moment ticket sales open can be pointless for actual concert-goers. And apparently only a couple of big acts (Miley Cyrus and Adele) have set up shows so that the actual credit card holder must be at the venue (no reselling), but even *that* apparently was done with loopholes: either ticket brokers would buy with one-time transferable credit cards (the actual concert-goer receives that card in the mail and uses it to enter), or ticket brokers would hire the purchasing card-holders to walk the concert-goers to the entrance/scan area (even that logistical nightmare was still profitable to the brokers). ..Still, allowing access for only the purchasing credit card holder still seems like the best approach to me — the venue just needs to match credit card to I.D. (closing the transferable card loophole) and not allow people to transfer at entrance/scan... Of course, that won't happen until bands have enough capital to buy their own venues, because all of these corporate venues have basically been purchased by the ticket brokers, so it is in the venue's best interests to allow and even encourage the scalping to continue. No worries! Not much to be done, I think :/ It's true that brokers can't really exploit festivals, though! That's why I flew to New Orleans to see Tool at Voodoo — it was actually cheaper to pay for the festival ticket, the plane ticket to N.O., and a car rental than it would have been to pay the brokers to see Tool in my home city. That also worked because Voodoo was a standing venue, whereas Tool otherwise booked mostly venues with folding chairs — at Voodoo I was able to get really close to the stage (maybe 50 feet) with only a general admission ticket. APC did similarly: more corporate stadiums with folding chairs on the floor space. I know APC is softer metal than Tool, but I'm not a fan of sitting for metal shows, especially on a flat space that wasn't designed for viewing angles (Andre the Giant seated in front of you? Oh well!). So while I probably won't get to see APC, on the positive side they didn't pick good venues and don't have a festival listed, so it may not have been worth it anyways. :)

I know they have been testing it in the Netherlands a couple of years back with selling tickets for festivals with ID, because they had also troubles with ticketbrokers, it helped a bit back then. Who knows maybe some states gonna do it too, if they notice the complains...
