Broward County Police arrested Richard Henry Patterson, 65, in November 2015, and charged him with second-degree murder in the death of 60-year-old Francisca Marquinez, his girlfriend of four months. The 65-year-old suspect allegedly admitted that he choked Marquinez to death, but has declined to explain the exact circumstances. Now, Patterson’s attorney, Ken Padowitz, is arguing that Marquinez accidentally choked to death while performing oral sex on his client. In a motion to the court, he said a former medical examiner will testify that the woman’s death is consistent with being accidentally sexually asphyxiated during oral sex. Padowitz wants the judge to allow Patterson to show the jury his penis as evidence for his defense, according to the Florida Sun-Sentinel. The attorney said he plans to prove the victim’s death was an accident that happened during consensual sexual activity. ----- that's some good lawyering

King points out that driver Susan Hyland had an arrest and drug history, but another reality was that the police could not prove that she was intoxicated that evening (King thinks that her history is the proof, but that's not how proof works; history can go to character, state of mind, and prosecution considerations (like how a case can be tried) but does not act as case-specific evidence/"proof"). He also points out Hyland's suspended license, but even that does not overrule Turner having illegally jaywalked on a highway (i.e., asking, "would most reasonable drivers have been able to stop in time?" — the answer being, "maybe not," Hyland can't really be charged with the hit so much as the "run" part of "hit-and-run"). King thinks that Hyland being moved out of criminal court was more white privilege, but it's a continuation: without proof of Hyland's criminality in the impact itself (e.g., no intoxication proof and Turner having jaywalked), Hyland's attorney was able to move the case out of criminal court. In drug court, with her character history working against her (including her afterwards intent to torch her car) and with her hit-and-run decision, Hyland was charged the maximum possible sentence available to the judge (drug treatment and five years' probation, and "If she violates the terms of her five-year probation, she could face up to 20 years in prison"). So, sadly for King, simply having a racial difference does not prove white privilege here, though it may show that the drug courts should have higher maximums available to them, and it may highlight that commuter hells with a low availability of pedestrian routes can produce dangerous situations for jaywalkers.

Douglas Goldsberry, 45, an Omaha chef who lives in the suburb of Elkhorn, began the unwanted strip shows in May 2013, about a month after his neighbors, a 30-something couple with two toddlers, moved in across the street. The family often feared for their safety, especially when the performers demanded payment. “The previous owners had a little bit of the same problem,” a neighbor told WOWT. Tristan Tucker of St. Albans was charged with daytime burglary last Thursday for a crime reported on April 23 to the Dunbar Police Dept. Tucker’s grandmother accused him of repeatedly breaking into her house through a window and disarming security cameras and DVR system. When police questioned the 27-year-old suspect, he allegedly confessed to the break-ins and gave an odd explanation as to why. Police said Tucker told them he originally broke into Grandma’s house through a window so he could charge his cell phone. As the phone was charging, Tucker said he started watching porn on it and that led him to masturbate. That’s when Tucker found himself in a sticky situation. He didn’t want his grandmother to see him masturbating in her home so he allegedly stole “the security cameras and the DVR box,” according to a criminal complaint obtained by The Smoking Gun. Tucker then said he stomped on the cameras before throwing them away in the river. But here’s the rub. Tucker didn’t destroy the DVR. He allegedly just hid it somewhere on his grandma’s property. Authorities found it and were able to view footage of their touchy suspect illegally breaking into his grandmother’s house on numerous occasions. A staff member wrote the proclamation, granting June 1, 2017, "Tre Day" in Cincinnati. It’s unbelievable,” Carl Webb said. Webb and his wife were leaving a barbecue festival on Thursday night in downtown Memphis. They had backed their vehicle into a parking space at Carolina and Riverside. “We came down the aisle, walked right to the car, opened it up on both sides. Hazel and I got into the car,” Webb said. It was dark out, and Webb’s sunshade was stuck up, so he couldn’t see what was on his trunk. Webb’s route out of the parking lot included a very curvy on-ramp to I-55. He drove down the busy interstate at about 65 miles-per-hour, until he took the 240 exit on Lamar. That’s when he saw police lights, and pulled over. “The officer came up and he said, ‘Mr. — are you aware there’s a body on your trunk?’ And that did not register. He goes, ‘Mr. I’m not messing with you. There’s a body on your trunk.’ So I got out. We walked around and sure enough, there he was — still hanging on! Still unconscious, just lying there,” Webb said. Webb had driven 14 miles with the uninvited and unaware passenger sleeping on his 14-inch-wide trunk. “I have no explanation, other than that little lip right there saved his life,” Webb said. Webb said the man was so drunk, he started to stumble into traffic, and the officer had to grab him. Devon Arthurs, 18, of Tampa, was apprehended Friday. He is accused of taking three hostages at a Tampa Palms smoke shop, according to a copy of the police report. After police talked Arthurs into surrendering, he made references to “Allah Mohammed” and said, “I had to do it. This wouldn’t have had to happen if your country didn’t bomb my country,” Tampa police reported. Arthurs is a U.S. citizen. When an officer asked Arthurs if anyone was hurt, he reportedly replied, “The people in the apartment, but they ain’t hurt, they’re dead … they’re definitely dead.” Police said Arthurs told them he shot his roommates because they’d been “disrespecting Arthurs’ Muslim faith” and that all three of them “had been friends with a common neo-Nazi belief until Arthurs converted.”

The man delayed takeoff for hours as he was escorted from the flight for being belligerent, the airline confirmed in a statement Monday. Passengers were reportedly upset with the unnamed man in the Trump campaign hat for refusing to allow anyone to sit next to him on Flight 187, apparently because he had been refused an upgrade. He became so disruptive that airline staff told passengers to exit the plane so that they could remove him before the flight could travel to its destination in Newark, according to the airline. Fellow passengers reported the man called other travelers names on the flight, including “moron, “lesbian” and “Hillary.” He referred to another passenger as “stupid friend over here that don’t know how to speak English,” video shows.
