Someone in the comments voices one of my previous concerns over orcas:
"He's safe because he's being recorded, orcas never kill humans when there are witnesses"
(i.e., maybe no orcas have been found guilty of murdering humans because they happen to be *that* intelligent) ;)

lulz. Now I'll have to re-watch The Purge ;D
Especially fitting because comments point out that protestors were walking down a private street for residents only (just like the closed community of The Purge).

Legally, the protestors were trespassing. I'm not sure that Castle Doctrine (Active law there in St. Louis) would allow residents to protect the private *street*/sidewalk from trespassers using lethal force, but if the residents give warnings (which they had been doing) and anyone enters their driveway or the grass area beyond the sidewalk.. that would be covered. And the woman does point her weapon at the crowd (finger on the trigger: yikes), but I think laws against brandishing *may* not apply on a private street like this, especially given the active trespassing.

Barefoot was an interesting choice. And it looks like the man was holding a proper AR-15.. the full-sized ones really can be nearly indistinguishable from an M16A2.. at least at distance. The couple appears to flag each other with their weapons a couple of times. They need to brush up on tactics and get Purge gear (masks and body armor) for the extra intimidation factor. ;)

I like the comments pretending that it's just a peaceful protest "just walking by"... like these protests haven't been shown to intimidate people, provoke confrontations, and turn violent at the drop of a hat. That's such a lame comment to make; they're "peaceful" until the second that they have an excuse not to be.
..and lots of talk about gun control but in the frame of mind of dis-empowering people from protecting their own property.. yikes

And yeah, if people want to disband the police in Minnesota cities.. home owners will pick up weapons. Without police, you get frontier justice. Not ideal.

i will guess 'the Couple' as they seem to be known :p must be avid Fox News watchers / Trump twitter readers who think protesters are burning & pillaging across the country

(i'm unaware of them targeting any residential areas, even during the worst days... in fact i have relatives that live only about a block from where some of the LA store looting occurred, they noted hearing lots of screeching tires as the looters ran into the residential side streets for getaways but that was it)

the Couple's male: Mark McCloskey told KMOV, “A mob of at least 100 smashed through the historic wrought iron gates of Portland Place, destroying them, rushed towards my home where my family was having dinner outside and put us in fear for our lives. “This is all private property. There are no public sidewalks or public streets. I was terrified that we’d be murdered within seconds, our house would be burned down, our pets would be killed. We were all alone facing an angry mob.”

http://hea...ey-st-louis-couple-guns-video/

i sense embellishment & poorly informed mindset

the protesters were headed to the mayor's house so doubt they 'rushed' Mark & Pat's palace at all

"i'm unaware of them targeting any residential areas, even during the worst days..."

True; it looks like most of the damage has been to businesses and commercial areas (not that that's good, but residences may be safe comparatively). Star Tribune (Minnesota paper) put together a map of the damages in Minneapolis and St. Paul. 37 residential properties were damaged, mostly minor, some medium-level: http://i.imgur.com/uvcGlhJ.png (via http://www.startribune.com/minneapolis-st-paul-buildings-are-damaged-looted-after-george-floyd-protests-riots/569930671/ )

So far in St. Louis no residences have been damaged (or none reported) — all businesses:
http://fox2now.com/news/missouri/st-louis-police-identify-businesses-damaged-broken-into/

Following the 2017 not guilty verdict of St. Louis Police officer Jason Stockley, the mayor's residence was trespassed, damaged, and vandalized:
http://www.stlmag.com/news/central-west-end-protests-following-stockley-verdict/
.. but other residences seem not to have reported any damage from the protestors. Yesterday's protesters trespassed the mayor's home and vandalized it and the area around it (looks like spray paint and signs attached to her door and home; street painted, stop sign vandalized, etc.) but no reports of broken/damaged property (FB stream of the protest into the night http://www.facebook.com/watch/live/?v=266897514577857&ref=watch_permalink )

And a St. Louis lawyer confirms that the couple was protected against brandishing charges:
""At any point that you enter the property, they can then, in Missouri, use deadly force to get you off the lawn," Walker said, calling the state's Castle Doctrine a "force field" that "indemnifies you, and you can even pull the trigger in Missouri." [/] Luckily, Walker said, no one got shot. [/] "There's no right to protest on those streets," Walker said. "The protesters thought they had a right to protest, but as a technical matter, they were not allowed to be there. ... It’s essentially a private estate. If anyone was violating the law, it was the protesters. In fact, if (the McCloskeys) have photos of the protesters, they could go after them for trespassing." ( http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/crime-and-courts/hundreds-of-protesters-march-to-st-louis-mayors-home-sunday-night/article_9edc57ed-c307-583f-9226-a44ba6ac9c03.html )

..So the couple was legally fine to protect their property, though it looks like they probably could have just managed security through obscurity (just watch and monitor the trespassing without confronting); protesters seem to avoid outright attacking residential areas, preferring to damage businesses or specifically target the homes of politicians. Now the couple has been doxxed, though the couple appears self-employed so they haven't been fired.

..
"i sense embellishment"

Could be some lawyerly embellishment to protect themselves legally ("fear for our lives" — true or not — has legal protections; self defense on top of Castle Doctrine).

That heavy.com link seems to point out the other things I'd say: that the protesters were videoed going through a pedestrian gate that was labeled with "Private Street". In the interview, Mr. McCloskey (the man) mentions that the protestors did in fact rip the gate off at some point (maybe in retaliation for them brandishing?). He also points out the irony of the protestors showing up at the mayor's house because she had doxxed protestors.. and then protestors turn around and dox him... though who knows if the same protestors were the ones who doxxed him.

..
"i mean maybe they're still allowed to execute them all per Missouri law but seems odd"

Yeah, I'm still not 100% convinced that the couple could use deadly force for entering the gate. It's a private street, so the protestors weren't even allowed on the side walk and can be charged for trespassing, but I get the feeling that shooting people on the side walk would have some grey areas attached. Castle Doctrine usually begins after the sidewalk (which the above lawyer may have meant when he said, "use deadly force to get you off the lawn"), but for a private street shared by multiple home owners, there may be a question of which residents — if any — can use deadly force to enforce personally the trespassing law. Brandishing and trying to get people to leave would still be covered, but deadly force may still be limited to the individual home owner's property... Then again, maybe if every single home owner were present and verbally consented to use deadly force? ;)

"“I know it’s something of a cliché, but I honestly consider my employees to be close, tightly knit, utterly devoted cadre of loyal followers who take my every word as absolute authority,” said the executive, claiming the bonds he shared with his workers weren’t unlike those of a fanatical commune of brainwashed zealots. “We’ve got all the typical Manson Family dynamics. I’m the paternal figure who keeps his subordinates in a stupor of exhaustion and confusion in order to make them particularly malleable to his twisted whims. Alice Fendelman is our parallel to Squeaky Fromme, who uses the pretense of taking care of the family members to ensure no one acts against the family interests—naturally, she’s our HR director. As for the rest, I have no doubt they’d kill for me if asked, seeing as I stripped them of their individual humanity long ago.” Vanders added that he originally started his company to punish his underlings and the world at large for his lack of artistic success."

Yikes@protesters hit by car D:

Awful thing to happen to anyone..
Someone posted a news link that says that one person died:

[KIRO7 (CBS) News, Seattle; July 4, 2020]
http://www...-5/UQCNROPHTRB2DPPEEYJY5YQZAA/
Sounds like the driver got lost or confused after protest road closure areas; he was sober; there may not have been malicious intent.

And to indulge in comical stereotyping while insensitively speaking ill of the dead.. it sounds like a person one would expect to hear to be protesting on a freeway at night: "24-year-old Summer Taylor ... [a] non-binary veterinary assistant, was devoted to fighting injustice."

But yeah... not exactly unexpected. Night road crews completely cover themselves in reflective material but still get hit sometimes.. so people wearing regular clothes at 1:30 AM? Hopefully she knew the risks... High-speed-road protests are not safe. Then again, neither is protesting during a pandemic. That's just a choice that people have to make; the cause may feel more important than personal safety. Not that every risk needs to be taken for a cause — a freeway isn't exactly better at changing hearts and minds than a town square.

The "Not Fucking Around Coalition (NFAC)", an armed black militia group, marching on Stone Mountain, Georgia:
[Jul 4, 2020]
http://imgur.com/gallery/uwZmKoQ
News source:
http://meaww.com/nfac-stone-mountain-park-armed-black-lives-matter-militia-protest-reactions

A comment on the Imgur link shows that at least one NFAC protester tries to distance himself from BLM ( http://files.catbox.moe/amglmu.mp4 ). Seems like a more confrontational stance. A little bit of overt racism there:
"We're black militia, bro... What are you is the question? Everywhere you go you invade, steal, rape, rob, and pillage, then you steal people's cultures, then you dare to have an attitude about it. Where's our reparations? ... It's not what you did, it's what your ancestors did."

Another comment points out that the NFAC leader posts some wild misinformation on his website:
http://twitter.com/TheOfficialGra3/status/1276982105726160897?fbclid=IwAR3WHJG5CcRAYUfw7iWovPPGETJDBTBGiR98LlH4Ribl8B8xGBIljrwQW9c

People in the comments make the point that people will complain that (alleged) armed white supremacists and NRA members shouldn't have a problem with this, but even if the armed anti-mask protesters were all 100% white supremacists, I'm not sure those commenters notice the problem with this just being *another* racist group preparing for a race war...

"Teens Flock To New App Where They Just Enter Own Personal Data Into Form"
[Onions, News in Brief; July 10th, 2020]
http://www...st-enter-own-person-1844339166
"NEW YORK—Revealing that the new software had seen skyrocketing growth among Gen-Z users over the past six months, consumer trends researchers confirmed Friday that teens are flocking to a new app where they just enter their own personal data into a form. “With over 650 million active users worldwide, Spress has proven immensely popular with teens who like the simplicity of just entering their name, address, and Social Security number into the appropriate data fields,” said Deloitte trend researcher Melanie Brandt, adding that the Spress app set itself apart from the pack among apps targeting to 13- to 18-year-olds by enabling users to hand over their sensitive personal information via text, pictures, and even video without any other function or product whatsoever. “Teen users also love the social aspect, which allows you to tag your friends so they have to enter their personal information. The success of this app, which dispenses with the normal features and functions of apps like TikTok, Vine, and Instagram in favor of just sending your personal information to the app’s investors, will likely make Spress the gold standard for new app development.” At press time, the app had nearly doubled in popularity among teens following the new company-generated Spress Yourself Challenge, where users competed to see who could enter the most personal data into the app."

It can get complicated to gather personal info from bums and addicts. Something that tells them 'your social security number must not exceed #' or 'must be at least #' for insistence would cut down on a lot of the delays in minor financial crime.

[Onion, News in Brief; July 13th, 2020]
http://loc...ls-coworker-screami-1844367076
"SAN DIEGO—Noticing the woman’s lips appeared to be moving during the afternoon Zoom meeting, local man David Keely said “Hey, I think you’re muted” Monday to coworker Cassie Boyd, who was screaming “Fuck you, fuck all of you.” “Wait, nobody can hear you,” said Keely, was quickly joined by the rest of his coworkers in offering Boyd troubleshooting solutions as the woman stabbed a finger toward the camera and threatened to rip out their throats with her teeth the first chance she got. “Uh oh, I don’t think your microphone is connected. Did you try unplugging your headphones and plugging them back in? Hmm. Have you hit ‘Join audio?’ Sorry, we still can’t hear you.” At press time, Boyd had successfully unmuted her microphone and announced “Never mind” to the group."

The video-maker wrote this:
"The video ends as they knock the phone from my hand. I picked it up and they tried to take it from me. They were unsuccessful thanks to Stinger Tools."
— Looking into it, "Stinger Tools" makes discrete self-defense weapons.. lots of pens with fortified ends for jabbing.

Someone brings up the California Proposition 27 issue again. We saw a similar video from before the pandemic; SF police were dis-empowered from dealing with petty thefts, so people can just grab a bunch of stuff and not worry too much about prosecution. I'm kind of reminded of the Judge Dredd situation where too much permissiveness results in a system re-compensating through ultra-violence ;D

Our personnel are clearly marked as federal LEOs & have unique identifiers. You will not see names on their uniforms b/c these same violent criminals use this information to target them & their families, putting both at risk. As Acting Commissioner, I will not let that happen!

Synthetic sounds likely — very Pris-looking white mime makeup ;)

If I were super Zuckerberg-rich I'd probably have a huge disguise collection, so even if paparazzi used some fancy telephoto lens and stabilizer to grab a picture like that from a mile away on a boat, they'd just see various LOTR characters from day to day ;D

Really, though. Ancient Romans had hair and make-up crews living in the house.. I think they were called "slaves".. so why not Zuckerberg? For the NDAs they'd have to sign, they'd probably make more than neurosurgeons ;p

I was trying to do a very simple vector-drawing in Adobe:Illustrator before importing to Photoshop, but it turns out to be super unintuitive...

If you want to know a true, QWOP-like nightmare, try to play this Bézier-line-making tutorial for Adobe:Illustrator:
http://bezier.method.ac/
There's a semi-helpful guide here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ji6X6_unFEE
..but the video author doesn't actually tell you what he's clicking, whether he's clicking and holding, clicking and releasing, clicking the same point twice, or anything like that. The game itself gives pointers, but it also omits those details. Knowing those omitted things, it suddenly makes sense and is fine.. but the nightmare to get there... D:

---
If you decide to play..
Answers I've worked out so far:
Level 1: no tricks, just click&releases
Level 2 (basic house): No tricks, but you can hold shift to make sure the angles go in 45° and 90° increments, if you want.
Level 3 (circle): {Shift again optional — no need to even let go of shift at all through the entire thing} Click&hold on the circle's first point (left-most point), move straight upwards onto the first point's vertical guideline endpoint, then release click; click&hold on the circle's second point (top-most point), move to the second point's right-most guideline endpoint, then release click; click&hold on the circle's third point (right-most point), move to the third point's bottom-most guideline endpoint, then release click; click&hold on the circle's fourth point (bottom-most point), move to the fourth point's left-most guideline endpoint, then release click; finally, just click&release on the first point.
Level 4 (heart): Click&hold on the first point (top middle of heart), moving down and right such that the opposing user-generated guideline endpoint matches the computer-given endpoint on the top left, then hold alt (this breaks the user-generated guidelines at their midpoint), move to the top right computer-given endpoint, and release alt and release click; click and hold on the second point (bottom of heart), drag down and left until the opposing user-generated guideline endpoint matches the computer-given endpoint on the far right, then hold alt, move to the computer-given endpoint on the far left, and release alt and release click; next simply click&release on the first point.

After this it's nightmare part 2! — no computer-given helping guidelines, and the shapes get complex \:D/
/wrists
I might come back to it, but I made the simple line shape that I needed, so I'm moving on ;p

i got decent w/ the line tool when i worked w/ it some years ago :p

probably not adding anything: but clicking is to add a vertex w/ no curve needed, click+drag creates those handlebar guides that determine sharpness of curve (& you can adjust the end points of handlebars if not happy - in AI, not that minigame)

holding shift locks your direction to flat or vertical... then it's Alt i guess that let's you break the guides so independent of each other (seen in heart)... & there's also a way to make one side's guide shorter than other w/o breaking it i think

so for car: the 90 degree angles on straight horiz & vertical would be holding shift to ensure straight & basic clicks w/ no dragging... then a click+drag at bottom of first tire w/ horizontal handlebars (or there'd be a way to do it w/ vertices at both spots where car meets tire & handles going straight down to create tire without ever having a vertex on tire)... going up back curve of car you could just use however many click/drag vertices you wanted in reality :p but mini-game limits your vertices so have to do it efficiently

after car is airplane, paperclip, then stopped at wrench

you basically put vertices right where curves start, let the guide from where you are coming from line up w/ your current line (& don't break the guides), if you want it to be a smooth transition... if it's not a smooth transition, then you break the handlebars (if curved shapes), if not entering/exiting any curves, can just click w/ no dragging/handlebars

in illustrator you can adjust the vertices (& add/remove them) & adjust the handlebar guides which makes it all easier :p

i never needed anything to complex when i used it
tumbleweed

Mon Jul 20 12:54:43
ok, it's a cloud after wrench, but stopping there as particularly annoying not to be able to edit your prior vertices/handlebars :p

also of note in Illustrator is the little symbol it shows on pen tip... when hovering over a line '+' means it will add a vertex (click & drag if you want it to have handlebars)... a '-' when hovering on a vertex is how to remove it

there's also a shape 'circle'? that shows you're closing a shape (ending at start vertex)... and there's some icon to show you're going to continue a shape that you previously finished (shows when hovering on a vertex that's at one end of a line you've previously made) rather than starting a new line in that area

there's also a selection tool that comes into play, maybe when you want to alter handlebars of a vertex... have to select the vertex first or something

i'm not a good teacher :p
