tl;dr: I'm trading with 1-2% of my cryptocurrency. I don't invest in cryptocurrency. I use DeFi as my savings account. I invest in macro-themed portfolios that change as the macro winds blow. I adjust it around every 6-8 months approximately. I think Bitcoin is stupid.

Trading Performance June 29th-July 13th:

BTC: -9%
nhill: +7.28% counting DEX fees. +9.73% on raw performance.

One open trade on $ETH from $1980 right now. Looking to dollar cost average it around $1700 if we can get there.

Right now my portfolio is pretty much hitting the market. It's up +0.9% since July 1st, and S&P500 is up +1.0%. Happy with that so far, as it's really designed to weather the upcoming season and heavy on the dividends (has a 3.3x bigger dividend than the S&P 500). I'll almost certainly beat the market again as I've done for 4 straight years.

But don't believe. My receipts are already posted. We'll see. :)

BTW, I am not trading to make money. It's not an income stream and if I lost it all, I would not care anymore than losing it at the roulette table. It's all good as long as I'm having fun.

I am investing to make money. If my portfolio underperforms the market I will be very disappointed in myself, but will most certainly analyze why and learn from it. I'm a macro guy, so my bread and butter is getting the calls right once or twice a year max.

USA will soon rule the crypto market: nuclear coin!

http://www...acility-and-data-center-in-us/

Talen Energy to build 300MW nuclear-powered cryptomining facility and data center in US

Energy company planning to bring Susquehanna Hyperscale Campus online in Q2 2022

US power company Talen Energy is planning to develop a nuclear-powered cryptomining facility and data center adjacent to a nuclear power plant in Pennsylvania, that could grow to 300MW.

Talen Energy formed Cumulus Data in 2020 to ‘invest in opportunities created by the convergence of digital infrastructure and power’. A spokesperson for Talen said Cumulus is a subsidiary of Talen Energy and has two separate businesses; Cumulus Data, focused on hyperscale; and Cumulus Coin, focused on digital currency mining.

The company is looking to develop the Susquehanna Hyperscale Campus (SHC) in Berwick, on undeveloped land next to Talen Energy’s Nuclear-powered Susquehanna Steam Electric Station (SSES) in Salem Township, Luzerne County.

Talen says the first phase of development will have 164MW of capacity, but when complete will have 300MW of on-site power supported by dual 1+GW nuclear units and two independent substations, with further potential to expand to 1GW capacity in the future if needed. The project is due to come online in Q2 2022.

Here's the full list of indicators I cross-reference before making a big move.

My most used ones are Bollinger Bands, Session Volume HD, Divergences v4, VWMA, Volume, and Exponential Moving Average.

But really, technical analysis just helps for confirmation bias and entry timing.

Level to level plays are the best way to make money trading.

My next exploration will be Solana. Been heavily researching it and it looks interesting enough for me to focus on for a while. Just like last time when I transitioned from Eth -> Polygon, I'll be moving things over very slowly.

No guarantees I'll stick with Solana. I highly doubt I will. It's an Ethereum competitor instead of Ethereum leverager like Polygon, and I have a firm belief in the Ethereum network effects.

But I have no bias. It looks like the best competitor so it's prudent to explore.

So what I'm doing here is waiting for ETH to get the $1700, at which point I'll double my position.

If we get to the top of one of my $BTC levels I'll short with that money I've saved up for the dollar cost average on ETH.

That way I can continue to extract some alpha on the crypto price action while awaiting my preferred target to dollar cost average.

So I've been doing a deep dive into a bunch of different crypto projects and came up with a portfolio that I'd buy at today's prices:

30% $ETH
15% $BTC
10% $LINK
10% $SOL
10% $MATIC
5% $CRV
2% $1INCH
2% $BNT
2% $ICP
2% $KAVA
2% $KNC
2% $LRC
2% $NEAR
2% $REN
2% $UMA
2% $ZRX

That would be what I'd buy and how I'd compose right now. I'm not actually buying it because:
a) I'm sticking with cash (too much chance of another big drop for my risk appetite)
b) I prefer to invest in stocks over crypto

But I'm going to track this and see how well I do. :)

$ETH: Despite BSC & Polygon competition it has ~6x more quality projects than both combined.
$BTC: Hedge. Slow, boring, but the most guaranteed.
$LINK: Critical to all things.
$SOL: Best $ETH competitor.
$MATIC: Best $ETH leverager.
$CRV: Most solid DeFi project.

The rest are a mix of novel use cases with decent tokenomics.

Sweet exit off my level to level play. Look at how it bounced now ($31710 was my level)!

I would have shorted again if it stayed under $31710 and bounced the wick off it a few times, as support would have then become resistance.

That didn't happen, so now I'm going to let it ride back to my next level around $32,100.

Okay, now $BTC is dipping under my level. It will most likely retest $31700 again and I'll short this time.

Cryptocurrency is like taking the worst parts of today's capitalist system (eg. corruption, fraud, inequality) and using software to technically limit the use of interventions (eg. audits, regulation, taxation) which serve as protections or safety nets for the average person.

http://www.cnbc.com/2021/07/14/dogecoin-co-creator-jackson-palmer-criticizes-the-crypto-industry.html

The co-creator of dogecoin explains why he doesn’t plan to return to crypto: It’s ‘controlled by a powerful cartel of wealthy figures’

Published Wed, Jul 14 2021

Jackson Palmer, the co-creator of the meme-inspired cryptocurrency dogecoin, made a rare return to Twitter on Wednesday with some harsh words about crypto in general.

“I am often asked if I will ‘return to cryptocurrency’ or begin regularly sharing my thoughts on the topic again. My answer is a wholehearted ‘no,’” Palmer tweeted on Wednesday.

In 2013, Palmer and Billy Markus created dogecoin as a joke based on the “Doge” meme, which portrays a shiba inu dog. Markus and Palmer didn’t intend for dogecoin to be taken seriously.

But the coin has recently taken off, and dogecoin is currently one of the top 10 cryptocurrencies by market value. Earlier this year, it hit an all-time high of nearly 74 cents. Despite its recent surge in popularity, Markus and Palmer haven’t profited, as they both sold out before dogecoin’s meteoric rise.

In his Twitter thread, Palmer criticized those in power in the cryptocurrency space, saying that it is “controlled by a powerful cartel of wealthy figures” who “have evolved to incorporate many of the same institutions tied to the existing centralized financial system they supposedly set out to replace.”

Palmer also criticized how crypto is shared and marketed. In another tweet, he alleged that “the cryptocurrency industry leverages a network of shady business connections, bought influencers and pay-for-play media outlets to perpetuate a cult-like ‘get rich quick’ funnel designed to extract new money from the financially desperate and naive.”

Palmer admits this type of “financial exploitation” existed before cryptocurrency, but says he still believes that the crypto industry hurts the “average” people who join it. He also believes it is susceptible to fraud, similar to other cryptocurrency critics.

Supporters of cryptocurrency see things differently. For example, bitcoin, the largest cryptocurrency by market value, was made to be a decentralized, peer-to-peer financial system. It is seen by its holders as a hedge against inflation, among other things.

In response to Palmer’s thread, Markus, dogecoin’s other co-creator, tweeted that Palmer’s “points are generally valid.”

“There’s a lot of terrible people who are involved in the crypto space, and I completely understand why he would feel negative about it,” Markus wrote. “I understand his perspective and we both saw mostly the negative side of all this,” he said in another tweet.

Markus has been much more active on social media, despite not currently being involved with dogecoin’s development.

“The crypto community can be pretty elitist and not very inclusive, and we wanted to make a community that was more fun, lighthearted and inclusive,” Markus previously told CNBC Make It about creating dogecoin. “It worked, and is why the dogecoin community consistently maintains a presence.”

Jackson Palmer neatly explained why cryptocurrency needs more regulation, as I've said since the beginning.

Without regulation, markets get manipulated by those with deep enough pockets to do so. This has been demonstrated since the beginning of time.

That's really the only point he's making. It's a good point, but not new at all.

The truth is, for anyone curious, is that you don’t have to deal with the manipulation if you stick with basic DeFi. The regulation is needed for investing/trading, and is why I don’t recommend doing it.

I’m dealing with it now trading for fun, but I don’t take it seriously. I know such subtlety is too much for your…what level understanding is yours if mine is meme-level? I guess we’d call it non existent.

Closed by underwater ETH position without losing any money.

Let it drop and turned a profit on the BTC short.

Now I’m going to get to buy my ETH cheaper AND extract alpha from the short.

I fell asleep though, or I would have gotten out of my ETH long position at 2020, would have been around +1%. Now we play the patience game because I don’t believe in stop-loss limits :) well, not really. i believe in the underlying asset long term, so my trades are mostly aimed at getting more ETH or BTC. As far as that goes I am up +7% ETH and 5% BTC in about 1 month. I am ALPHA baby, I love this new jargon :-)

Average cost right now $1818, at 1% of crypto.

Will grab another chunk <$1700 if we can get there.

Looks like it's still dropping like a rock. :)

I am looking for an indicator or some way of getting a good overview of volume or change in volume over time. Right now I feel like I am just "eye gauging" the length of the volume bars.
