"squirrel appropriating American culture" I do like the comical/sad reality of seeing wild animals get diabetes from human foods ;D .. In Internet Zeitgeist news, George Takei apparently wanted to be relevant for gay issues again, so following the Trump/Biden debate he started (or was one of the starters of —) a #ProudBoys hashtag-hijacking designed to drown out the message of the Proud Boys organization by using the hashtag to promote gay issues. People have been asking in Imgur comments if the Proud Boys care or if the Proud Boys have shown anti-gay bias. The leader says, "[No]": http://i.imgur.com/vXCj8rg.png ..but because that breaks the flowchart rules of trolling effectiveness¹ (here, that the Proud Boys don't even care, so the trolling makes no difference), my simply posting that article got me quite a few downvotes :D Apparently the evidence that the Proud Boys represent a hate group is flimsy. It basically just amounts to "[White supremacists showed up at events where they were present, and some of their members *might* be white supremacists]." So the motives of this particular hashtag don't really have a strong attachment to reality. ¹ Trolling flowchart (I can't find the picture, but it goes something like this): • Do they know you're trolling? ➤ No ➤ Keep trolling • Do they know you're trolling? ➤ Yes ➤ Are they mad? ➤ Yes ➤ Keep trolling |

rank | Mon Oct 05 07:18:36 2020 London (CNN) — Five parrots have been removed from public view at a British wildlife park after they started swearing at customers. The foul-mouthed birds were split up after they launched a number of different expletives at visitors and staff just days after being donated to Lincolnshire Wildlife Park in eastern England. "It just went ballistic, they were all swearing," the venue's chief executive Steve Nichols told CNN Travel on Tuesday. "We were a little concerned about the children." "I get called a fat t**t every time I walk past," Nichols complained. The African grey parrots -- named Eric, Jade, Elsie, Tyson and Billy -- were given to the park from five different owners within the same week, and shared a quarantining facility together before being placed on display. But staff immediately noticed that the birds shared a propensity to fly off the handle. Related content "They literally, within a very short period of time, starting swearing at each other," Nichols said. "'F**k off' is the most common one," he explained -- "it's a very easy one for them to learn" -- but the birds would utter "anything you can think of." Most customers enjoyed the talent once the parrots were displayed. "The visitors were giving them as much back as what they were giving to them," Nichols said. But concern for younger customers forced staff to split up the birds and temporarily remove them from the park's public areas. Staff now hope the birds' language will become more family-friendly now that they have been separated. http://edi...-park-scli-gbr-intl/index.html |

"Report: This Article Successfully Pads Out Content Quota" [Onion: News in Brief; October 2nd, 2020] http://www...ds-out-content-quot-1845184363 "CHICAGO—According to a new report released Friday, this article, the one you are currently reading, has successfully padded out The Onion’s daily content quota and is expected to help generate the minimum level of web traffic necessary to keep the publication financially viable. “All indicators suggest this article will fulfill its purpose as a piece of filler content written with the express purpose of meeting the day’s minimum publishing requirements,” the report read in part, adding that the article is completely devoid of editorial value, contributes nothing to the public discourse, and serves no purpose beyond increasing ad impressions on the website. “While this won’t be The Onion’s highest-performing article of the day, it should nonetheless boost the click-through rate and, by doing so, keep the lights on a bit longer. Media-focused articles such as this have a niche audience, but with the addition of SEO keywords like “late capitalism,” “Harry and Meghan,” and “TikTok challenge,” it should deliver numbers just high enough to justify its existence.” The report concluded by noting that the bottom of the barrel has now been scraped, there are no stories prepared for tomorrow, and it might be best to start the morning off with a slideshow of past favorites." |

rank | Thu Oct 08 20:36:43 2020 A Chicago woman was arrested after she allegedly chased and tried to hit several police officers with her car because they were pulling over someone she knew, officials said Thursday. Dawn Moore, 30, was charged on Wednesday evening with nine felonies after her run-in with police hours earlier, the Chicago Police Department said in a press release. Moore, a Chicago resident, allegedly interrupted a police stop on South State Street shortly before 11 a.m., when she pulled up in her 2020 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon SUV. According to police, a woman, later identified as Moore, “pulled up and told officers that the man they had pulled over was someone she knew and she demanded the officers to let him go.” Police told Moore to leave the area “because she was obstructing traffic,” authorities said. She responded by crashing her SUV into one of the police cars at the scene, allegedly sideswiping the vehicle and then trying to “run over an officer,” police said. “The female driver then made a U-turn in the middle of the street and struck another police vehicle in which an officer was exiting,” officials said. She then fled the area. ... http://www.foxnews.com/us/chicago-woman-chased-struck-police i'm surprised that didn't work out |

And whatever you do, try not to let the flesh melt off your body until you’re only a skeleton like you did during the last practice session, as this could be looked upon as a sign of weakness.” At press time, the debate prep had been halted after Trump became furious over conflicting advice from a snake-covered George Washington and himself as a two-year-old." |

rank | Fri Oct 16 13:09:17 2020 Yeah, Showtime doesn't have a lot of good original programming. They also have only very slowly been getting on board with full streaming... They have a presence on Hulu, but it still doesn't include new releases — just back catalogue. By October 26th, it will have taken them 6 months to finally release Homeland season 8 on Hulu. They didn't even allow direct sales of it on iTunes. You probably remember me complaining about them with Dexter too: I was willing to pay for the season pass of Dexter on iTunes, but they wouldn't release it until months after the season completed. That would [allegedly] have been a tough wait :p They apparently have more options on Amazon Prime. Homeland season 8 is already available there via a Showtime add-on. If they release Dexter episodes as they air, I'd probably get a temporary subscription.. .. heckin' chonk (*very* fat cat) http://imgur.com/gallery/LqtWLQF |

TMZ adds slightly more context: http://www...nger-n-word-burger-king-crown/ "the man initially got aggravated when he was told there was no more overhead space for his bag, and began cussing loudly as he walked to his seat. When I called the number on the poster, this fuckhead was all like, ‘How does she seem?’ and I said, ‘Seems fine,’ and he said he’d have the money ready. And now he’s crying and angry and trying to take back his promised reward? This is completely on him—if he’d specified ‘alive’ on the poster, then I wouldn’t have put the dog in the trunk.” Pearson added that he should’ve learned his lesson last time when he tried to return the kid he’d seen on a milk carton and the kid’s asshole parents wouldn’t give him anything for a dead one either." |

Then it sounds like she left possessions behind in his seat. It'll be interesting to see if she really did knee him, but otherwise it sounds like he was just getting too loud/unruly about the whole thing. Saying the n-word shouldn't matter so much as the volume of his voice, at any rate. The man took the bulldozer in Haines City on Saturday and repeatedly destroyed Biden signs in full view of people who live in the neighborhood, witnesses said. James Blight was charged with grand theft auto and trespassing, according to the Haines City Police Department. ... Police said Blight claimed he was too drunk at the time to remember what happened. #maga |

A picture obtained by Local 10 News shows Dwight Turner’s heavily bandaged head and ear after the savage attack, which detectives from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission say happened behind a home on Earnest Boulevard on Aug. 31. The man who lives there, identified as Michael Poggi, has a Facebook page saying he runs an animal sanctuary for rare and endangered animals. Investigators say Poggi charged the 50-year-old Turner $150 for a “full-contact experience” with his black leopard — to “play with it, rub its belly and take pictures.” FWC’s report says that once Turner walked inside the enclosure, the leopard attacked. The injuries were so severe, the report says the victim’s scalp was “hanging from his head and his right ear was torn in half.” http://www...-by-leopard-behind-davie-home/ |

Sources confirmed his purchase of a Delta Comfort-plus seat, the culmination of centuries of social and financial advantage granted to his family by virtue of their skin color and accumulation of wealth across generations, added $70 to the cost of his flight from Denver to Atlanta, a price Foss could easily pay. According to reports, the circumstances of his birth also provided the 31-year-old consultant with premium snacks, guaranteed overhead bin space, and the right to sit in front of other people on the plane, amenities he received in addition to a lifetime of access to quality healthcare, elite education, home mortgages on generous terms, and good-paying jobs. At press time, sources reported that Foss had decided to expense the cost of the upgraded seat to his employer, a request that would be granted without question." |

For your money, you’re not going to find a better cable.” At press time, the man born into the world’s most affluent and privileged socioeconomic group was spending his 15-minute break silently consuming a sleeve of Donettes purchased out of a vending machine." .. They need to avoid these redundancies if they want to keep their long-time readers. We remember these sorts of things ;D It also looks like the newer article didn't quite commit to the joke; they wanted to make the joke that privilege only amounted to extra leg room, but they felt the need to undermine the title by saying it represented "amenities he received in addition to a lifetime of access." Maybe the writers room has changed in the last 6 years. |

rank | Sun Nov 01 13:59:13 2020 That's the look of Fall 2020 ;p .. the rat thing... D: D: D: .. I just got muted by another person on Imgur :p This was #3 for sure, though I only started tracking in early October and couldn't answer for ones that muted me without saying anything first (you can only tell that you've been muted when your responses to the muting-person fail to remain on the page after refreshing or when clicking on the comment in comment history returns a failed link). This one went right from the mute playbook: his last comment to me was, "Yeah, great. Anything to say other than inane platitudes?" See the playbook trick? :D Lots of people do it on Imgur now: He muted me after asking a question knowing that my silence (from him muting me) would make him look good to passers-by (passerby: "[Oh! This person really did *not* have a response! Game, set, match!]"), but, the solution is simply to post an image of my response to him in response to myself so that it still appears (Making another account could work too, but Imgur frowns on having multiple accounts to avoid mutes). And because he muted me, he doesn't know that his plan failed (ironic because people who get muted usually don't know it, whereas in this case the muter doesn't know). Maximum petty on my behalf, but I don't like these sorts of cowards. The conversation wasn't exactly vitriolic before his mute, he just took the easy way out. :p .. And at the end he also shows his pretty barren-looking apartment with about 6 cats in view. It makes me wonder if he's one of those people whose heart is bigger than his ability to be loving. Like, sometimes animal hoarders can end up giving a lower quality of life to pets than if they had just not intervened at all... there's that tipping point of too many cats in too little space. So I just hope he's getting enough income to build a cat sanctuary ❤;p |

I understand why media sites do it (in a worst case scenario it diffuses the situation without confrontations), but it's too underhanded. I'd like to know for sure who the cowards are :p I also think that people should only get to mute others for specifically difficult situations, like outright spamming, trolling, and harassing. But muting because you disagree? Yikes. And I've been seeing people do that more and more. Lots of Twitter conversations (not even talking about mine) end with people making some one-dimensional declaration about the other person followed by "muted". It just reinforces echo chambers... not a good look. Personally, if I feel like I'm talking to a brick wall, I just tell the other person something to that effect, read their retort, but then don't respond. No muting necessary. *shrugs* .. One of the clips I watched before posting speculated that that was why, but I thought the helmet poking was two completely different players, so it seemed weird that 83 (Wims) would retaliate on the wrong person. So.. makes slightly more sense that 83 was at least retaliating against the correct person, albeit on someone else's (17's) behalf and on the next play — a pretty indirect chain :D That reminds me of the Garrett/Rudolph fight from last season.. which resulted in a few suspensions. I'm guessing that's how things will go for Wims; maybe his season will be over right there. I'm pretty impressed that players don't fight more often, but maybe the self control comes from protecting their paychecks.. and maybe Wims wasn't thinking about his ;) |
