My father-in-law has vascular dementia and the main problem is he doesn't think he has it. Jekyll & Hyde type personality.

Yeah, if you tell my grandpa he has dementia or Alzheimer's he just says, "Oh! I didn't know, thanks for telling me!" Grandma on the other hand thinks you're conspiring to have her committed if you even suggest her memory's slipping and will be ready to fight.

It's brutal. More so for him than me, though. He had to be committed and still doesn't understand why and thinks he's normal. Terrible way to go.
